Legacy is defined by Mirriam-Webster as ‘inheritance’ or ‘something that has come from a predecessor or the past’. As I reflect on this and consider how this translates to technical rescue I am reminded of my love for the outdoors that was fostered by my parents. In addition to showing me how to appreciate nature, they taught me by example, the importance of people and the importance of caring for others. This is their legacy. They continue to be living examples.

This translated to current day takes shape through my love of the fire service and technical rescue. The love of the outdoors, learning to appreciate the challenges associated with existence in austere conditions, and the importance of helping people, eventually led to this service career.

People have profound impact on others. Consider those who’ve left you something similar, it is ultimately priceless. What is your legacy?
